Świdnik
To the east of Lublin's administrative borders lies the nearly forty-thousand-strong town of Świdnik. It is primarily known for the production of helicopters and motorcycles. Świdnik is home to the largest airport in the region - Lublin Airport.
HISTORY OF ŚWIDNIK
The name of the town probably comes from the name of a plant known as "świdwa," typical of areas with moorland and lowlands. This corresponds to its location since Świdnik is situated in a basin. The earliest mentions date back to the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries, but it experienced its greatest flourishing in the 20th century due to the growth of industry. In 1954, Świdnik was granted town rights, making it one of the youngest towns in the Lublin Voivodeship.
CONTEMPORARY TIMES
Currently, Świdnik consists of several housing estates - older ones established in the 1960s and 1970s, as well as estates of single-family houses. New apartment blocks and single-family homes are also being built. The entire town forms a compact complex that can easily be explored on foot. The town is well-connected to Lublin with buses, public transport, trains, and to other towns such as Rejowiec Fabryczny, Piaski, and Chełm. To the south, Świdnik is bordered by National Road No. 12. There is also an international airport here. Places worth visiting in Świdnik include:
- Park Avia - a complex of swimming pools and recreation,
- Kino Lot - a cinema with atmosphere, an ideal place for movie fans,
- Las Rejkowizna - a large part of the town consists of a forest complex, perfect for walkers, cyclists, and lovers of active leisure.
